If your currently in a situation where you can't pay your rent on time or you need help paying rent, there are a few steps you can take to organize your situation. Don't let the situation get worse by putting it off and start taking steps to get help with rent fast:
1. Go over your rental lease documents and see your status. Find out exactly the penalties and consequences of paying rent late. Calculate the rent fees and do what you can to avoid any eviction status. Your lease cannot be altered unless you have been notified. So make sure you have a clear understanding of your rental agreement.
2. Schedule a meeting with your landlord today. Talk to them about your situation and see what they can do to make your rental situation easier. Be very strait forward with your landlord rather than putting it off and don't be afraid to ask for a deal or exception regarding your rent problems. Studies show that landlords are willing to negotiate rent payments and late fees if you talk to them.
3. Pay the rent you can afford now. If you can't cover your rent, make an effort to give your landlord something. If you can only pay half of your rent and need more time to get help paying the rest, go for it. Of course you need to talk to your landlord if this is the case.
4. Learn your rights as a tenant. See what has to be done for you to actually be evicted in your state and be very clear about what needs to be done to keep your apartment. For tenant and rental rights in your state visit the Government HUD website for more information.
5. Take advantage of your local and government rent help programs and get the help with rent you've been looking for. See links below.
6. When all else fails, pull out a short term personal loan to help with rent. This is a last resort. See links for rent help loans on upper right corner of this website.

Hello. My name is Angie. 2 year ago I left my abusive husband and found my 2 kids and I a LEASE PURCHASE HOME WITH A PAYMENT OF 895 A MONTH. In the situation that I was in I had no choice but to take the house because my kids and I would have been on the streets. I have used all of my 401K so that we could start over. I am working full time and I'm also a full time student working my Degree in Business Administration. With only 1 1/2 semester left to graduation it's hard for me to get a second job to cover my bills. If I could get assistance it would deeply appreciated. THANK YOU!!!

I have been having severe financial problems since april..when my pay was cut..almost in half. Ive been trying to find PT work or FT but to no avail. I already owe rent..which I cannot pay. Ive tried to make appl for assistance but they keep saying they are not taking applications. My son cannot work as he is disabled and I really need to come up with $800 for the rent, this include past due. Does anyone know of any agencies that are legit and can help with maybe a grant or loan. Also, I have bad credit. please I really need help.

I was a victim of mental abuse and cruelty. The boss that did this to me has caused panic attacks and flashbacks that I have been going to counseling for. It caused me to not want to go out of the house and I flunked this last term at school because of it. I find myself with two weeks to find a new place to move to, the funds to do so, the funds to pay my storage payment so I do not lose everything I own, and the income to keep afloat. That does not include the phone payment due the 26th, and my car insurance that has to be in my bank account before the 7th. I need help but do not know where to turn. In addition, I have one female fixed cat that has been the only constant in my life for the last 8 years.

I have read all the hints above and exhausted them all. Unfortunatly I went thru a very messy divorce in which ( yes, against my better judgement He destroyed my credit and has taken that option out of the equation.) My hope is for at least DSS will come thru with a VERY small amount and I am also disabled and cannot get even a part time job. I am trying to keep my head above water and am mortified to ask for help but cannot let my pride get in the way, especially since it doesn't pay the rent. I cant even live in my car as that has also died. Can anyone PLEASE point me in a direction? I would be most grateful.

What if you have tried to speak with your apartment manager and she keeps avoiding the conversation? I have Attempted to speak with her about my situration of being let go and my last check was only for 2 days I have attempted to get help from charities and human resource but now since I need help they say that are out of funds for rental help? Human resources says I have to jobless for 30 days before they can assist me I have filed for unemployment but that will take a least another three weeks? Should just give away all my belongings and move to a shelter I am at the point now of just giving up.

Thanks for the input mark, however I seem to have exhausted those options in the past already. I've pretty much hit up everyone I know for rent help over the last few months and received what I could.

JJ, if your only 200$ short on your rent payment why dont you ask someone you know to lend you the money. That a very small amount that should be too hard to achieve. I wouldn't recommend pulling out a loan or asking the government for such a small amount. They are generally helping pay rent for those with much deeper financial issues. Go though all your friends and family first and see if they can help you pay your rent on time this month till you get back on your feet. Good luck

Does anyone know where the best place to pull out a fast personal loan to help pay my rent on time this month. I've tried just about everything and I'm waiting for approval for government rent help resources. I just wanna find a loan company that will lend me 1000$ for about a month until I get everything together. I am currently about 550$ short on my rent so I guess I dont need a full 1000$. Any rent help tips or loan leads would be great! thanks

Thanks for the tips...nice article. I need help with paying my rent this month as I am still backed up from last month. I'm still waiting on the government grant resources to kick in listed here, but if anyone can help me pay my rent on time it would be really helpful.
I have 3 kids and my unemployment ran out after being laid off 4 months ago. I'm a single mom living on next to nothing. I'm really close to landing a job which will make things better again, however, I do need some sort of rent help whether it be from the government or a personal loan to get bye this month. Please respond if you have any more leads to find help with paying me rent on time. It's an emergency. I'm not actually asking for someone to fork me over cash who doesn't know me, but any type of rent help lead would be helpful. Thank you to those who have read this far.
